St. Andrew's to host a carol festival

LONGMEADOW Come and celebrate the music of the season. Novi Cantori, the professional choral ensemble under the direction of Allan Taylor, presents a Family Carol Festival on Dec. 17 at 3 p.m., at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 335 Longmeadow St. (Rt. 5), Longmeadow. The New England Brass Quartet and organist John Anderson will also perform.

The Carol Festival will feature Christmas arrangements by the New England Brass Quartet, holiday music from Poland, England, and America, and a Christmas organ solo by recitalist John Anderson. Audience members will be able to join in singing many traditional carols. A Christmas Cookie reception will follow.

The Family Carol Festival is free of charge, and children are warmly welcomed. Families and parish or community groups are encouraged to attend and participate together, and experience the joy shared by a community that sings together.

Novi Cantori is a chamber choir of nineteen voices who perform a variety of fine arts music from the Renaissance to the modern age. They appear regularly in the summer music series at Trinity College, in the concert series at the Cathedral of St. Paul, Worcester, and appeared with world-renowned concert organist David Briggs at the dedication recital of the new pipe organ at St. Andrew's Church. The pure, clear sound of Novi Cantori is unique in this area, and its remarkable blend, precision, and expressiveness are reminiscent of an English cathedral choir.

Allan Taylor is beginning his fifteenth season as director, having served as accompanist and assistant director previously. Mr. Taylor is also the Minister of Music at First Congregational Church, Westfield, Music Director of the Greater Westfield Choral Association, and Director of the Hampshire Choral Society, and teaches at Westfield State College. He is a concert organist and harpsichordist.
