Town notes

LONGMEADOW -- Residents are reminded that town by-laws require that abutters clear sidewalks of snow and ice within 24 hours after a snowstorm stops.

Abutters to fire hydrants are also required to clear hydrants from snow and ice. If you need assistance, contact the Council on Aging at 565-4150; they will refer you to a hired service. Failure to clear sidewalks or hydrants may result in fines. To report a problem, contact the Enforcement Officer at 565- 4153.



Winter hours began Dec. 24 at Longmeadow's Recycling and Yard Waste Center. The Center is open only on Saturdays from 9 a.m. -noon during the winter months of January, February and March. A 2006 Recycling Center sticker is required by residents who wish to use the Center. Stickers are on sale at the Clerk's Office at Town Hall. Call 567-3400 for more information.



The Longmeadow Historical Society's Spring 2006 Historical lecture series will be held at the Storrs Library's Betty Ann Low Meeting Room, on Feb. 22, March 22, and April 26 at 7 pm.
