Town sets fall leaf collection policy

Date: 11/9/2010

Nov. 8, 2010

LONGMEADOW The Town of Longmeadow will provide a curbside-bagged leaf collection program this fall.

Longmeadow residents will have three options for leaf disposal: 1) use the town Pay As You Throw (PAYT) leaf collection program; 2) hire a private contractor for leaf removal; or 3) purchase a Recycling Center sticker and transport leaves directly to the meadows leaf composting site on West Road.

Town of Longmeadow PAYT leaf bags are available for purchase at four locations: Brightwood Hardware, the Council on Aging, the Department of Public Works (DPW) office on Pondside Road from 7:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. and at the Recycling and Yard Waste Center on Saturdays only.

The cost for the bags is $5 for 10 bags. Curbside collection of the special town leaf bags will begin on Nov. 8 and extend through the week ending Dec. 3.

The drop off area in the Meadows off of West Road is open for the season and will remain open to residents and contractors through Dec. 12, weather permitting. The hours of operation will be from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. seven days a week with the exception of Thanksgiving Day. A current Recycling and Yard Waste Center sticker is required for residents in order to use the West Road leaf drop-off site. Contractors must purchase prepaid permits at the Town Clerk's office.

Please call the DPW office at 567-3400 with any questions or concerns.
