Good Samaritan Singers welcomes new members

The Good Samaritan Singers sing to raise money to benefit Rural Missions, an ecumenical mission, supporting the neediest of folks in the Sea Island area just south of Charleston, SC. The mission repairs existing homes and often these are mobile homes in desperate need of an overhaul. At this time there are approximately 150 families requesting help from the mission.

Monies collected through fund-raisers including the concerts featuring The Good Samaritan Singer are used to buy building supplies for the homes that will be worked on by mission teams.

This past year work teams were assembled from three area churches, Greenfield, South Hadley, and Westfield. These teams were made up of people from many of our local towns such as Chicopee, Belchertown, and Granby. The Elms College and Mount Holyoke College also sent work teams.

In March of 2005, teams completed the installation of new walls and four new windows in one home and another home received a new roof. There are approximately 12 to 15 homes completed each year. With more hands and more money more could be accomplished.

If you are interested in doing some good work, if you have some skills or no skills, you can come and volunteer to help changes lives. Call 539-6480 for more info.
