State commander of VFW discusses national convention

SOUTH HADLEY Newly elected State Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, (VFW), Mike Connors of South Hadley, recently led a contingent of 65 delegates to the VFW National Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Among the highlights of the National Convention were the opportunity to have the president of the United States address the Convention Delegates, and to see and hear the Mormon Tabernacle Choir live and in person in their own beautiful Latter Day Saints Convention Center.

Action was taken on a multitude of Resolutions that came before the Convention. And there was a "silent auction," held in which the Department of Massachusetts' entry was the top money earner. According to Commander Connors, "Our auction item was an autographed Louisville Slugger baseball bat with the inscription "World Champion Boston Red Sox" and "Department of Massachusetts, VFW."

At the Patriotic Rally hosted on the Tuesday night of the Convention week, Connors got the opportunity to sign, dace, and shake hands with performer Tony Orlando.

Connors is a life member of VFW Post 625 on Front Street in Chicopee.
