SPRINGFIELD -- The 16 Acres Civic Association is gearing up to celebrate its golden anniversary with a special, members-only dinner at the Greenleaf Community Center on June 15 at 6:30 p.m.

"It is for members and invited guests only," Civic Association President and Springfield City Councilor Clodo Concepcion told Reminder Publications. "If anyone wants to join [the association] before that, or on that day, they are welcome."

Concepcion said residents interested in joining the 16 Acres Civic Association should call him at 787-7716.

Concepcion noted several members of the legislature including State Rep. Angelo Puppolo and State Sens. Gale Candaras and Stephen Buoniconti as well as city officials including Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno have been invited to the event.

At press time Concepcion could not confirm which elected officials would be attending.

The 16 Acres Civic Association was founded in 1960 by a group of concerned citizens. The organization was officially incorporated in 1987. Through the years it has focused on public safety concerns and economic development issues for the neighborhood and acted as a liaison between residents, city government and the police.
