SPRINGFIELD -- Domenic Sarno, the 54th mayor of Springfield, was sworn in to his second term on Monday at Symphony Hall. Joining him were other local politicians, including Congressman Richard Neal, State Rep. Sean Curran and State Sen. Gale Candaras, who spoke.

Neal, who was the city's 49th mayor, said the inauguration ushered in "new faces, a new decade and a new experiment, with ward representation returning to the city." He added that the city needs to "reject the common narrative that Springfield's best days are behind us," because new and better things "are always being written."

The expanded City Council was sworn in first and the new School Committee second, by City Clerk Wayman Lee. The City Council now includes Timothy Allen, Thomas Ashe, Clodo Concepcion, Melvin Edwards, Michael Fenton, James Ferrera, Zaida Luna, John Lysak, Timothy Rooke, Jose Tosado, E. Henry Twiggs, Kateri Walsh and Keith Wright. The School Committee included Christopher Collins, Barbara Gresham, Denise Hurst, Peter Murphy, Antonette Pepe and Norman Roldan.

Sarno was sworn in by former Mayor Mary Hurley. "It's an honor and a privilege to serve as your mayor," Sarno said.
