SPRINGFIELD -- Chain mail jewelry enthusiasts will have a rare opportunity to meet an up and coming beader and instructor on Oct. 16, when Simply Beadiful hosts a book signing with author and jewelry designer, Sue Ripkin.

The event will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. in the store, located at 1916 1/2 Wilbraham Rd. in 16 Acres.

Simply Beadiful owner Dawn Davis said Ripkin, a native of Wisconsin, will be signing copies of her new book, "Classic Chain Mail Jewelry" and teaching several classes at the store during her visit to Western Massachusetts.

Davis said she met Ripkin and her husband, Steve, during a visit to a bead and button show in June and became interested in her designs.

"I asked her if she would come out and do classes and a book signing and she said she would," Davis said. She added that Ripkin, a registered nurse by profession, became interested in beading when she took a class on making Byzantine bracelets at her local bead store. Before long, some of her designs were published in a beading magazine and she began teaching classes, first at local bead stores in Wisconsin and then at national shows.

Ripkin will teach two bracelet making classes on Oct. 16 as well as a necklace and earrings class on Oct. 17. The cost for the bracelet class is $30, plus materials. The cost for the necklace and earrings class is $40, plus materials.

Ripkin will also have kits for other designs for sale during her visit as well as samples of her work on display.

Davis said beaders can sign up for the classes on the store's Web site, www.Simplybeadiful.com.

They may also call the store at 782-0288 to register.
