Chiropractic office fills long-vacant South End space

SPRINGFIELD The building that formerly housed Ciro's Restaurant on Main Street in the city's South End is once again fully in use thanks to new ownership.

Dr. John Maslar bought the building and last October opened his seventh Chiropractic HealthCare Center at 868 Main St. Maslar has other offices in Springfield, Chicopee, Holyoke, Westfield, and Boston.

According to Amy Grimaldi, who handles the centers's public relations, Maslar invested $600,000 to convert the building into a state-of-the art chiropractic office and physical therapy center.

The chiropractic side features a massage room with three massage beds and an aqua massage machine. Grimaldi explained the aqua massage machine does not require disrobing. Patients lay in the machine and then powerful jets of water shielded by flexible plastic do the massage work.

The massage services can be purchased separately or used in conjunction with chiropractic treatments.

There are two treatment rooms and two doctors available, depending upon the day's patient load. The center also features its own X-ray facility, so patients don't have to leave the premises during their evaluation.

The other side of the renovated area is a physical therapy treatment. There are numerous exercise machines in the large area and Grimaldi said plans are in the works to extend hours on Saturdays for exercise and Pilates classes.

The building also has two tenants and is now completely occupied.

Grimaldi said neighborhood reaction to the new business has been "great."
