Club Miami ends noisy Teen Nights

SPRINGFIELD Residents of both Springfield and Chicopee near the Liberty Street Shopping Plaza should have more restful nights in the future. As part of an arrangement with the Board of License Commissioners, the management of Club Atlantic has agreed to eliminate all Teen Night promotions.

Manager Alberto Morales was called before the Board to address a number of violations, several of which involved large crowds of people in the parking area near the club.

Board chair Peter Sygnator said the Board has received numerous complaints about late- night noise from the club's patrons.

Morales had been running teen nights that were marketed to youth under the age of 18. He said he had permanently cancelled the Saturday night Teen Nights "quite a while ago," and had recently eliminated the Friday Teen Night.

On Sept. 6, 2006, there was a disturbance involving 300 to 400 people and the off-duty officers hired by the club had to call in backup to control and disperse the crowd.

Another incident on Nov. 11, 2006, involved approximately 150 people.

Morales received a violation for a promotion that offered free admission to women on a certain night. The state's alcohol laws prohibit any discrimination. Morales said an outside promoter had used such language in a flyer and it would not happen again.

Morales and his attorney asked the Board to accept an offer in which the club would have its license suspended for 10 days and place a condition on its license to legally prevent him from having any more teen nights.

The club will be closed March 28 through 31, and on April 4, 5,6,11,12, and 18.

Morales also submitted a new security plan to the Board.

Sygnator warned Morales that any more violations could result in decreasing the hours he is allowed to keep the club open.
