FILLING THE BUCKETS

From Oct. 17 through Nov. 17, Springfield schools will be collecting pennies to aid the evacuees from Hurricane Katrina who now live in Springfield area. Based on the Red Cross Penny Drives of World War II, the new campaign allows children to help a difference. Five-gallon buckets, contributed by Lowes, have been placed at the 45 public school in the city. PeoplesBank has agreed to counting the pennies. The Bowles School is one of two schools that has already filled its bucket and is ready to fill another. Seen above are students (left to right) Bianca Jeffries, Awalda Farias, Cindy Cardona, Luanie Cotto and Milano Cassesse who put the finishing touches on the Bowles collection on Friday afternoon.
