Imperial Aquatics brings exotic fish to Springfield

Date: 7/14/2021

SPRINGFIELD – Imperial Aquatics specializes in selling exotic freshwater and saltwater fish. Their location at 390 Dickinson St. in Springfield opened about two years ago and has since provided a unique fish shop  to residents in Western Massachusetts.

“We opened because we noticed that the Massachusetts area, especially the Springfield, Chicopee and Holyoke area, didn’t really have a freshwater fish market around here that carried a lot of exotic fish that people are looking for and asking about,” said Manager Jaydrien Feliciano.

Imperial Aquatics now sells fish, tanks, food and more. In addition to their storefront, they also ship fish and supplies nationwide. During COVID-19, they were forced to close their location but were able to continue with online sales.

“We do provide shipping and we also do shipping on Ebay, so we were able to keep customers satisfied,” said Feliciano.

Feliciano said they have now been steady business-wise but that summer is their slowest time of the year.

“Business-wise it’s been going up, but it is summertime and we don’t really get a lot of people during that time just because a lot of people are going on vacation and they can’t really keep up with their tanks,” he said.

According to Feliciano, Imperial Aquatics sees the most customers in the fall after vacations end, work resumes and people are able to spend more time indoors. He said that this time of year generally gives customers more time to pay attention to their aquariums and keep them properly maintained.

Imperial Aquatics offers varying, affordable prices, according to Feliciano. A single fish could start at $3 and groups of community fish could range from $15 to $20. More information can be found on Imperial Aquatic’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Imperial-Aquatics-441574283056955.

Feliciano encouraged residents to visit Imperial Aquatics because of their clean and unique offerings.

“Our tanks are really clean, we keep them maintained every day and we have some exotic, freshwater fish that you probably don’t see in any other stores around here,” he said.
