SPRINGFIELD Julie L'Heureux, the nurse practitioner at the new Springfield International Health Center, said, "there is a unique need in the neighborhood and in the Springfield area" for its services.

The facility opened on May 22 and had its grand opening on May 24. It's located at 760 Chestnut St. across from Baystate Medical Center.

L'Heureux said the health center's focus is on addiction treatment, both drugs and alcohol, as well as providing complete family medical care. She said the approach they use for addiction is a holistic one that features both medications and support groups.

L'Heureux said she had worked at Putnam Vocational High School and observed the population using opiates becoming younger and younger.

L'Heureux said this is the newest location for a series of clinics operated by Dr. P.S. Kishore. He is the director of eight offices offering these services across the state. There is another office on Liberty Street and one in Holyoke.

The center accepts most major health insurance plans.

The center is currently open from Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and L'Heureux said she anticipated those hours would increase as the demand for their services grow.
