Local music school celebrates serving the community for 65 years

Date: 11/22/2022

SPRINGFIELD – The Falcetti School of Music is celebrating their 65th anniversary through February 2023.

They offer individual and group music lessons as well as community programming for the public through libraries, independent and assisted living facilities, recreation departments and senior citizen centers. The school’s mission will always be to share the joy of music through teaching lessons to students of all ages and skill levels, to provide live music performance opportunities for musicians, and to help the public enjoy live music.

Director of Education Jennifer Brevik said, “Music transcends time and space. It’s been wonderful over the last 65 years that we’ve been able to offer music lessons to anyone at any age who wants to learn.”

Founder Sam Falcetti started as an accordion salesman who would go door-to-door offering accordion lessons and accordions for sale. He opened a studio in Westfield and after a few years of growth, Falcetti opened a couple other facilities, which eventually led to the Springfield lessons and retail facility on 1755 Boston Rd. Falcetti’s original vision was to teach lessons and to get music in peoples’ lives. He put together multiple accordion bands which were popular at the time and is still teaching over 30 accordion students.

“I never thought after graduating from college back in 1957 that I was going to open a music store and it would end up being in the business for 65 years,” Falcetti responded. “It’s a long time, but it was certainly very rewarding for me. We now have a third generation, my grandson who is in the business and my oldest son Tony runs the company. I can’t ask for anything better than that in life.”

Falcetti School of Music has evolved teaching drums, percussion, guitar, bass, piano, strings, brass, woodwinds, vocals and audio engineering. Brevik looks forward to creating lasting and meaningful partnerships within the community; to make music education more accessible to places such as assisted living facilities and memory care units. “We intend to create meaningful programming to change lives,” she added.

On Dec. 4, the students and some of the teachers will be performing at the MassMutual Center for the Festival of Trees. An event where people enter to win Christmas trees with awesome gifts. The school will have a Christmas tree giveaway at the festival as well and funds raised benefits the Boys and Girls Club. In the future, Brevik wants to grow the school’s population to establish more groups and unique learning opportunities for their students.

“The point of music-learning for some is to get to mastery. For others, it could be a form of therapy or to relax,” Brevik said. “Whatever your reason, we’re here to help meet your goals where you’re at musically.”

The Falcetti School of Music location in Springfield is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. They also have another location in Simsbury, CT, on 540 Hopemeadow St..
