Texas Roadhouse to help Children's Hospital

By Lori O'Brien, Correspondent

SPRINGFIELD Texas Roadhouse employees will once again host its popular Line Dance-A-Thon later this month to raise funds for Baystate Children's Hospital and the Children's Miracle Network.

The third annual fundraiser is "very special" to Texas Roadhouse employees, according to store marketer Michelle Fairman.

"One of our valued guests, 10-year-old William Sansalone, passed away three years ago from a brain tumor," said Fairman during an interview with Reminder Publications. "William loved Texas Roadhouse, and his parents Jim and Maria have made Texas Roadhouse part of their permanent family, as his favorite booth is dedicated to him at the Springfield location. This is our way to dedicate an event in William's name, where he would have loved to attend. This is our way too to help out the children in need in our own backyard."

Fairman said all proceeds raised from the fundraiser will go directly to Baystate Children's Hospital.

"With the very generous support of REMAX Teamwork Realty in East Longmeadow, all donations will be matched up to $5,000," she added.

Highlights of the Aug. 17 event, planned from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., include a live broadcast by WMAS 94.7, an appearance by singer/songwriter AJ Jansen, activities for children, and a free Texas Roadhouse lunch with a $10 donation to the hospital. In addition, four hours of straight line dancing is slated, as well as appearances by Andy the Armadillo, the Texas Roadhouse mascot, and the Springfield Fire Department. Lastly, Dairy Queen will supply ice cream to top off the expansive luncheon offerings by Texas Roadhouse.

Fairman noted that participants can expect a "great event menu."

"Area residents should attend the line dance-a-thon because they can get a legendary lunch provided by Texas Roadhouse, have some great fun, and help a child in need, all at the same time," said Fairman. "We see the same guests every year because it's a great event and a bunch of fun for the whole family."

Fairman encourages area residents from across the region to turn out for the fundraiser to help support children in the Greater Springfield area.

Participants will also have an opportunity to purchase "Miracle Bags" which promise to be chockfull of prizes and gift certificates from businesses across the Pioneer Valley.

"The 'Miracle Bags' will contain donations from all over Western Massachusetts," said Fairman, adding, "get a great prize for such a small price."

Fairman noted that more than 100 area businesses have contributed to this aspect of the fundraiser. Prizes to be won include tickets to the Big E and Six Flags, as well as movie and restaurant gift certificates, savings bonds, hotel night stays and much more.

"All miracle bags are personally decorated by the children in the hospital and are filled with prizes and certificates, so make sure you get your special bag while supplies last," added Fairman.

The Texas Roadhouse is located at 12 Mall St., at the Allen and Cooley Plaza.
