SPRINGFIELD -- Rehearsals are fast and furious these days as the Theatrix group gears up for performances of "The Wedding Singer" in May at the Springfield Jewish Community Center.

Eva Stockhamer is directing the production which is slated May 16 and 17 in the center's auditorium.

"We are the first group to get the rights to do the show in Western Massachusetts," Stockhamer said during an interview with Reminder Publications.

Working behind the scenes with Stockhamer are Tony B. Romeo, musical director; Andrew Beaulieu, stage manager, and Amy Kimball, producer.

Stockhamer explained that the musical is based on the 1998 movie starring Adam Sandler.

"The Wedding Singer ran on Broadway for quite awhile before going on tour," Stockhamer said .

The musical centers on Robbie Hart, a professional musician who sings at weddings with his band.

"They have dreams of being rock stars some day," Stockhamer added.

Of course, there are plot twists and as the story moves along, Robbie discovers that Julia, a waitress at the events where he performs, is the woman he has been searching for -- he just has to make her realize what a jerk her fianc is.
