WEST SPRINGFIELD The Friends of the West Springfield Public Library (WSPL) is sponsoring a performance by the Pioneer Valley Fiddlers on Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. The "Happy Music" performance is directed by Christine Keenan.

Dedicated to the preservation and performance of traditional fiddle music, this group of all ages performs early dance music such as jigs, two-steps and reels.

With a variety of musical instruments, they perform in northeast style, Irish, Scottish, Canadian, as well as southern style Cajun and Texas pieces.

The club was formed in 1992. Ages range from four to seventy with all ability levels represented. Besides fiddlers, musical instruments include keyboard, accordion, mandolin, guitar, wash tub, washboard, and spoons. Performance size varies from four players for small settings such as cocktail hours and open houses, to twenty players for large stage performances like country fairs and

church picnics.

They have performed at the Big E, the Blandford Fair and other

fairs, the Summit House in Holyoke, nursing homes, and various summer concerts in Western Mass and Connecticut.
