WEST SPRINGFIELD – In an organization meeting on Jan. 4, the West Springfield Town Council determined its leadership for the next two-year term. The meeting was took place after the inauguration ceremony at West Springfield High School in order to conduct elections.

Councilor-At-Large Brian Clune made a motion to nominate Condon, which was seconded by Councilor-At-Large Bridget Fiala. Newly sworn in District 4 Councilor Dan O’Brien moved to nominate Councilor-At-Large George Kelly, but the motion failed to get a second.

Condon was voted in as president unanimously.

With the start of his third term serving on the Town Council, Condon said deciding to toss his hat in the ring was the next logical step.

Former District 4 Councilor John Sweeney sat in the president’s chair for the previous term but decided not to seek reelection for a sixth term. Condon said Sweeney encouraged him to pursue the role.

Condon said a focus for the council under his leadership would be reviewing ordinances, such as the parking ordinance that was passed by the outgoing Town Council at its Dec. 22 meeting.

The Town Council also approved its meeting schedule for the year. The next meeting will take place on Jan. 12.
