WEST SPRINGFIELD The Lower Pioneer Valley Educational Collaborative (LPVEC) was abuzz with activity on Nov. 21 as it was the venue for a "World to Work Fair" attended by students of the school.

"It is the first try at having a gathering with people from industry, colleges and military. It gives them [the students] a good sense of what is out there," John Michaels, guidance counselor for the LPVEC said.

Swords said the Career Fair was the result of an increase in students enrolled at the school which has grown to a student body population of over 400 students.

"It is a good time to have something of our own here-to link information learning here to possibilities after high school," Erica Swords, guidance counselor and coordinator of the Career Fair said.

The large room in the lower part of the school building that was used for the Work Fair was filled with representatives from Greenfield Community College, the Army and other future ventures.

"Students can get info about the field that they are in medical, culinary and Articulation Agreement programs at high school and at college level," Swords said.

The Articulation Agreement Programs are ones that students can take college courses while attending high school and then apply these earned credits to their later learning.

"I think this is an excellent idea," Tony Germano, student at the LPVEC and attendee of the Career Fair said. "You get to know a lot of people and learn information that you didn't know."

The LPVEC moved to its current site at 174 Brush Hill Avenue last January from its previous location at Johnson Road in Chicopee.
