Nonprofit aims to bring excitement

carley@thereminder.comWEST SPRINGFIELD – A new nonprofit celebrated its grand opening by receiving the keys to its office.
Roberta Page is the founder and president of It’s West Springfield Inc. that will be housed at 10 Central St., suite 20. Her vision for the nonprofit is to enhance and improve the quality of life for residents.
“Neighboring communities have their spirit and weekends and now West Springfield has the ‘It’ factor,” Page said. “We want to create some excitement and vibrancy to showcase and feature the many outstanding people, businesses and things we have in our community.”
Mayor Edward Sullivan explained that he appreciates the mission of the nonprofit. “The goal is to pull together the diversity [within] the town for different events.” He anticipated that Page would work with the School Department to coordinate some of the events.
Page stated, “We have many exciting things planned for residents, businesses and visitors which everyone will hear more about as time goes on. West Springfield, truly, is the ‘Crossroads of Western Massachusetts’ with Interstate 91, the Massachusetts Turnpike Route 90, Route 20 and Route 5, as major corridors for travel and visitation to all points east, west, north and south … all connecting through West Springfield.”
She continued, “Our current population of 28,391 is a richly diverse population with nearly 40 languages spoken and is known for historically significant events throughout the centuries.”
One of the first events Page seeks to create is a 240th anniversary of the first town meeting.
