WEST SPRINGFIELD -- It's a new year, a new class and a new beginning for those at Fausey Elementary School.

Students took advantage of the opportunity to enthusiastically usher their parents through the halls to praise their first two weeks of work during open house on Sept. 15.

Michael Lim, father of nine-year-old Kieran, said he moved his family from Springfield to West Springfield two years ago so his son could have a higher quality education. "It's a better school system," he added.

Kieran has excelled at Fausey Elementary School, Michael noted and his son agreed with a grin.

"I love Fausey! It's always so welcoming and warm and family-oriented," Betsy Grenier, mother of eight-year-old Ellie, said outside her daughter's third grade classroom.

Betsy praised the faculty and staff for their transparency and students-first philosophy.

When asked what she thought of third grade in Mrs. Albano's class, Ellie replied enthusiastically, "It's awesome! She's nice and does fun [activities] with us and good math."

Second grade teacher Linda Contois called the open house a success with "a very good showing" of parents and students. The event allows parents to see how their children have handled the transition into a new grade level; parent-teacher conferences to address students' individual needs will take place later in the year, she added.

Remaining open houses throughout the school district include Mittineague Elementary School on Sept. 22 at 6 p.m., West Springfield Middle School on Sept. 23 at 6:30 p.m., John Ashley Elementary School on Oct. 5 at 5:30 p.m., and Cowing School on Oct. 7 at 5:30 p.m.
