Dickens Days returns to Westfield with a full course calendar of events

WESTFIELD- "The City is participating in a month-long holiday celebration that, 'invokes the spirits of the Season' as inspired by the works of Charles Dickens and the Victorian Age," Bob Plasse, president of WOW said.

The third annual Westfield Dickens Days celebration presented by Westfield on Weekends Inc. (WOW) and made possible with the sponsorship of the Westfield Business Improvement District (BID), Amelia Park, Westfield State College, Cassin Insurance, Hugh Flynn Esq., Park Square Realty, United Bank and Whip City Cleaning Service with other assistance from Amelia Park Children's Museum, Bannish Lumber, Kieran Curtis Studio, Hometown Structures, Leslie Tane Design, the Westfield CDC, Westfield Evening News, Westfield Theatre Group, Zuber's and the City of Westfield.

The schedule includes the following events Nov. 24- Make Way for Father Christmas! Santa arrives at Amelia Park (by helicopter) 10 a.m., Free.

Nov. 27 - Candles and Carols: Mayor Sullivan's Green Lighting Ceremony, 6:30-8 p.m., at the Westfield Green, Free.

Dec. 1 and 2:- "It's a Wonderful Life", original musical by Westfield Theatre Group, 7:30 p.m., Westfield Woman's Club, $12 Adults, $10 Students/Seniors. Matinee: Dec. 2 at 2p.m.

Dec. 2 - Christmas Craft Fair 9 a.m. 4 pm, St. Joseph's National Catholic Church, Free.

Dec. 2 -Queen Victoria's Victorian Tea, First Congregational Church, 2:00 pm, $12 tickets, Advanced reservations required: 568-2833.

Dec. 2 - Family Christmas Carol Concert with Novi Cantori & New England Brass Quintet, Allan Taylor, conductor, 3:00 p.m., First Congregational Church, Free.

Dec. 3 - 4th the Annual "A Dickens of a Day Historic House Tour", 11a.m. - 4p.m., begins at Westfield Athenaeum, $15 at door, Sponsored by Western Hampden Historical Society.

Dec. 4- Lights of Hope: Victorian Luminaries on the Green to benefit the Cancer House of Hope, 6:00-7:30 p.m., Westfield Green.

Dec. 6 - "A Christmas Carol", starring acclaimed New York actor, Gregory Oliver Bodine 3:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., First Congregational Church, $12 Adults $10 Students/Seniors $8 Children under 12. Tickets available at the door, at the Athenaeum, Conner's, Little Black Dog Gallery & First Congregational Church.

Dec. 8 "Tis the Season!" Richie & Kathie Mitnick present A Holiday Concert with The Rhapsody Singers, 7:00- 9:00 p.m., North Middle School Auditorium,

$7 Adults, $5 Seniors. Free for Children under six, Sponsored by the Westfield Senior Center and Westfield Rotary community grants program.

Dec. 8- It's a Wonderful Life, original musical by Westfield Theatre Group, 7:30 p.m., Westfield Woman's Club, $12 Adults, $10 Students/Seniors.

Dec. 8 & 9- "A Jingle-Jangled, Comic Carol" starring Boston cabaret star, Carol O'Shaughnessy, 8:30 p.m., Piccolo's Ristorante, Elm Street, $25 and $30.
