WESTFIELD According to Molly Watson of the Amelia Park Children's Museum, no date has been announced as of yet to the grand opening of the new children's museum.

"We need to raise another $200,000 for the museum before it can be opened," Watson said. "Funding is going towards internal operations. The building is constructed but we are raising funds for paying for daily operations to open the doors and turn on the lights."

Watson said the museum will not be operated with any state or government funding. It will be privately funded through doners. About $2 million has been raised by the museum thus far.

Fund-raising events will be presented this summer that include a Flapjack Fund-raiser at Applebee's Restaurant June 2, the Annual Golf Tournament at Tekoa, June 16 and Super Phipps Liquors will support a can and bottle drive on July 14.

"It has been a longer process then what we had hoped, but a lot of museums have closed for a period of a year before they open up a new museum," Watson said. "We have been fortunate to not have to do that."

There will be a meeting next month. For more information go to www.ameliaparkmuseum.org.
