WESTFIELD Noble Hospital's Integrative and Complementary Medicine Committee is pleased to announce the upcoming Wednesday Wellness Series. There will be a total of five Educational Programs which will include topics relevant to issues of health including Stroke Prevention, Smoking Cessation, Cardiac Health, Skin Cancer and Osteoporosis. The Series schedule is as follows: Oct. 5 Understanding and Preventing Stroke. Steve Rowan, R.N., Program Director of Bronson Rehabilitation Center, Connie Jansen, P.T., Bonnie Weis, P.T., and Raymond Auletta, M.D., Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, will panel this presentation on all aspects of stroke from prevention to recovery. Medical care, new treatments and specific stroke descriptions will be discussed. November 9 The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly; Smoking: we're hooked - is it possible to stop? Thomas Tremblay, R.R.T. Director of Respiratory Care and Pulmonary Rehabilitation, will lead participants through a visual presentation on how we get hooked, why we can't stop and the consequences that can and usually do occur. Certified Hypnotherapist, Joseph Barako, R.N., will explore the methods of hypnosis as a route to smoking cessation. Join us as he outlines the options we have with this approach to a difficult problem. March 8 Early Detection &Prevention of Melanoma Stephen Fine, President of the Melanoma Education Foundation, will discuss Melanoma, a common and deadly skin cancer. Topics will include incidence, statistics, lack of public knowledge, risk factors, warning signs, early detection, and the role of ultraviolet radiation as a causative factor. A skin analyzer that allows users to see their facial sun damage will be available. April 12 Cardiac Health Mehdi Pajouh, M.D, Cardiologist and Tricia Porter, R.N., B.S.N., Cardiac Rehab Program Director for Noble Hospital will discuss cardiac issues. Learn preventive measures we can all take to assure a healthy heart. Topics will include family history, diet, and exercise. Understand the importance of cholesterol levels. The signs and symptoms of a heart attack will be discussed as well. May 10 Osteoporosis: The Breaking News Osteoporosis, or low bone mass, causes nearly 1.5 million hip, spine and wrist fractures each year. James Wang, M.D., Obstetrician/Gynecologist, will provide an in depth look at osteoporosis: its causes, the risk factors and prevention.
