SOUTHWICK – Vincent Caruso of Southwick has always been drawn to photography, snapping pictures of landscapes in his spare time. Now, Caruso has turned his passion into a business.
Vincent Caruso Photography opened up in late June after he graduated from the Hallmark Institute of Photography in Turners Falls. It was there Caruso learned the art of taking portraits, which he is continuing with his business.
His work includes portraits for high school seniors, weddings and events, as well as commercial photography and both indoor and outdoor sessions.
“I kind of feel that once I start getting connected with people in the community and the surrounding communities, I think my pictures will be able to tell a story and provide smiles to all walks of life throughout Western Massachusetts,” Caruso said. “I guess to make it simple my goal is to look through the camera and see the beauty of someone else no matter who they are.”
Though photography has always been a hobby for Caruso, the decision to set up shop and make it a career came in the search for fulfillment.
“I’ve been taking pictures most of my life. I always had a creative side that I struggled with in the financial industry,” he said. “I was in sales for many years and I got to the point where I wasn’t happy with my job and my career and I decided to go with a dream.”
Taking a leap, Caruso had the support of his family and friends, who encouraged him to follow his passion. He said he was lucky to be able to do so.
“I think it goes with what America stands for. You can do anything, and I’m just very fortunate that I’ve been given the opportunity to live my dream,” Caruso said. “There’s a lot of people out there that don’t have that opportunity, and I feel very fortunate.”
Caruso has already gotten to work, and pursuing his new career has started to pay off.
“It has been rewarding,” he said.
