The city of Westfield was one of many cities across the nation that celebrated National Night Out Against Crime on Aug. 2. The city and local organizations hosted many activities on the city green to celebrate the event, which is designed to bring together members of the community and law enforcement officials -- to heighten crime and drug awareness. It is also designed to strengthen the local neighborhood watch programs to show criminals that organizations are fighting back against crime. In Westfield, students from New England Martial Arts, taught by Sensei Stephen J. Serwecki, demonstrated their techniques against simple attacks. The Discover Westfield Children's Museum provided face painting and the Westfield Boys and Girls Club offered games for children while informing the community that the Club is a safe place for children. In addition, the Westfield Fire Department tore apart a car during a Jaws of Life demonstration.
