Bay Path College showcases local entrepreneur

HAMPDEN Emily Rose Pawlowicz of Hampden was recently a featured speaker at Bay Path College. She is the founder of Colorful Creations Bead Company Inc. in East Longmeadow. Pawlowicz started a successful jewelry business when she was 12 years old, selling necklaces, bracelets and earrings in local craft fairs for $4 each. With each purchase, the customer received a card that Pawlowicz had written on the computer telling the metaphysical properties of each stone or crystal bead. Her line of jewelry was so popular that customers came to shows just to purchase from her.

When Pawlowicz was 13, she spoke with her parents about opening a retail store. She was in on every decision from where the store would be located, to what merchandise would be sold, working with lawyers, real estate agents and inventory suppliers from all over the world.

Now 16, Pawlowicz is currently an instructor at the store, teaching different techniques of jewelry making. She runs the cash register, is in charge of keeping inventory stocked, works with the customers and creates jewelry designs of her own. She travels all over the country to major gem and jewelry shows to purchase merchandise.

Pawlowicz is an honor roll student at Minnechaug Regional High School in Wilbraham. She will be a junior in September.
