Club takes on initiatives in the name of good

The Wilbraham Junior Women's Club recently met to assemble "We Care" packages. The packages are designed to spiritually and physically assist breast cancer patients who are undergoing chemotherapy treatments. "We Care" packages are distributed to patients at Baystate Medical Center, Mary Lane Hospital and Franklin Medical Center. A Rays of Hope grant funds this project. The Wilbraham Junior Women's Club orders the personal care items, assembles the packages and delivers them to the hospitals. This was the 8th time since 2002 that the club has participated in this project, each time 100 boxes are assembled. If you know of someone who is receiving treatment and think that they would like to receive a package, please contact one of the hospitals mentioned above.

The Wilbraham Junior Women's Club has joined forces with several area fire departments in Operation Firepower. Operation Firepower is a recently formed initiative. It is an ongoing collection to support the 399th Combat Support Hospital and the troops serving in the Baghdad, Iraq area. One of our local firefighters is stationed at the 399th Combat Hospital.

In December the Club collected holiday stationary, cards, envelopes, pens and stickers to provide the soldiers with a means to write home to their families for the holidays.

Recently the Club met to assemble 200 Valentine gifts bags filled with candy, Valentine wishes and much needed toiletry items.

The Club will continue their collections for Operation Firepower throughout the year. If you have any stationary related items that you would like to donate you may contact the Junior Women's Club at www.wilbrahamjuniorwomens.org.
