WILBRAHAM The Hampden-Wilbraham Regional School District voted last week to submit their Statement of Interest to the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA).

This vote came after the MSBA released their statewide Needs Survey Report. According to the report, the 142-paged document is a culmination of eight months of work "commissioned by the MSBA to gather statewide baseline data about the general conditions of locally-owned public school facilities throughout the Commonwealth."

The data was used to rate each school on a one to four basis, four meaning the school may need substantial work. Sixty-two schools received a four Minnechaug Regional High School was one of them. Of the 62 schools, 11 were already on a waiting list and are due to receive funding in the future from the MSBA.

A Statement of Interest form defines the priorites school construction and renovation projects must fall under.

In mid-April the School Committe submitted the form to the Boards of Selectmen in Wilbraham and Hampden, for their review.

Superintendent Dr. Paul Gagliarducci said at the meeting that neither board had any comments or additions to the statement.

School Committee Chair Scott R. Chapman also read a prepared statement about the Statement of Interest form and the MSBA's findings. That letter can be found in Reminder Publications' Letters to the Editor section on page 4 this week.
