Friends host 'Golden Ticket Raffle'

HAMPDEN What can you get for $10 today?

Four gallons of gas. One movie ticket. A couple of value meals. Maybe a gallon of milk, loaf of bread and a quarter-pound of cold cuts (on sale!) at the market.

So, what if you could turn that $10 into a chance to win $1,000?

Well, the Friends of the Hampden Free Public Library can offer you just that opportunity, if you use your $10 to buy a chance in this year's Golden Ticket Raffle.

And, if your ticket doesn't win the $1,000 grand prize, that $10 investment will also get you the chance to win one of 12 other cash prizes, ranging from $500 (two winners) to $250 (three winners) to $100 (seven winners).

Invest in reading

Even if you don't win, that $10 will be money well-spent. The Friends will be using the proceeds from this year's annual raffle ticket sales to support their Read For All Campaign, which will supplement this year's library budget allotment for the purchase of new books and audio books for readers of all ages.

"The budget is down 35 percent from the original operating budget before the library closed (in July 2005)," said Friends President Patty Ehlers of the need her group sees to keep fund-raising for the library.

Ehlers said ticket buyers only have a couple of more weeks to take a chance on that $1,000 prize.

"The drawing will be Feb. 2 Groundhog Day at 7 p.m. at La Cucina de Hampden House Restaurant," she said.

Golden Tickets can be purchased at the Hampden Library, Pop's Pizza, Hampden Hardware and Professional Cleaners.
