Girl Scout readies for next collaborative event

Lauren Santos
WILBRAHAM Mentored by Julie Costello of the Scantic Valley YMCA, Senior Girl Scout Lauren Santos coordinated a dinner for the beginning of her Gold Award project. Seniors from the surrounding communities of Ludlow, Palmer, Indian Orchard, and Wilbraham met at the Scantic Valley YMCA.

Twenty eight seniors attended the lasagna dinner donated by the Junior Women's Club of Wilbraham with bread by Chmura's Bakery of Indian Orchard, and salad from Il Giardino of Wilbraham.

Harpist Kathryn Abbot, from St. Cecilia, played, and several members from the Wilbraham KEY Club served and baked desserts. This brought together the organizations and seniors of the different communities for the winter months.

The Gold Award is the highest award for Girl Scouts and requires career, leadership, and 4B Challenge Steps to be earned and 65 hours of a community project. Lauren is on her way to completing her 65 hours for the award. Lauren and Costello are working on the next "Let's Get Together," event, scheduled for Feb. 19.
