The Team and its coach, Russ Mooney, were given a private tour of the State House and treated to lunch in the Members Lounge." Candaras and Rogeness took the opportunity to present each team member with a commemorative citation celebrating his victory. Following lunch, the state champs were escorted to reserved seating in the House Galley and, after being recognized from the rostrum by Representative Candaras, were greeted by the entire membership with cheers and a standing ovation. The House was in session and, after being honored, the Team had the opportunity to hear debate on several important pieces of legislation. "Their trip to the State House gave us an opportunity to showcase Minnechaug's state championship team to the entire Massachusetts legislature. That recognition is well deserved by the hard-working players," Rogeness said. "We're always looking for ways to showcase western Mass here on Beacon Hill ..." Candaras remarked. "I know I speak for the entire community when I say how proud we are of these fine athletes! With only six seniors graduating this year we're hopeful the boys will be a powerhouse in Division II Lacrosse again next year." |
