HAMPDEN The Friends of the Hampden Free Public Library invite the public to attend their annual meeting on July 29 at 6 p.m. in the Town Hall.

Friends President Patty Ehlers said the organization is always looking for individuals willing to give their time and talents in a large, or a small way, to support the library.

At this meeting, she said the Friends are also looking to fill several board positions including "treasures and jack-of-all trades."

"We're a fun, fundraising group, Ehlers said of the work the Friends do to support the library. "Our 'Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader' fundraiser was a huge success, and a great time for all."

Teens invade Spray Park July 31

Ehlers said the Friends will be saying a big "thank you" to all the library's teen volunteers with a special Spray Park pizza and movie night on July 31.

That evening, beginning at 6 p.m., the Spray Park at Memorial Park on Main Street will be turned over to the teen volunteers.

Hampden tweens and teens entering grades six through 12 who might be interested in volunteering at the library are also invited to join the fun.

Admission is a canned good or a gently used book.

"The Spray Park is usually filled with little kids, but for one night our teens can enjoy it with their peers," said Ehlers.

The evening's refreshments pizza and cold treats will be provide courtesy of the Friends.

"They will also have a choice of three movies to be announced," said Ehlers. "The kids will get to vote on which movie they want to watch when they get there."

"It will sort-of be like a summer drive-in, only you don't bring your car," she added.

The teen event is being organized by Friends volunteers Ann Garbecki and Cathy Mahoney.

Got books? We want them!

Ehlers said the Friends are also collecting used books for an upcoming book sale in September. Donations can be dropped off at the Friends annual meeting on July 29 or at the teen event July 31. To make other arrangements, please contact Elhers at 237-7061.
