MRHS building costs clarification

Date: 11/15/2010

WILBRAHAM -- Clarifying a Nov. 8 story, "School Committee exploring ways to reign in cost of new school," the projected total savings from the Minnechaug Regional High School building project for the towns of Wilbraham and Hampden will not be approximately $12 million, as initially reported.

Through a reporter's error, the projected costs of the new pool as new district offices, as well as contingency money, were overlooked.

According to the figures presented at the July 27 School Committee meeting, the town is projected to be responsible for $5,474,750 for the pool and district offices and $3 million in contingency funds, in addition to the $22,952,541 for the school building.

As of July 27, the projected cost of the school building project, including the main school building, pool, district office and contingency funds is $30,973,000. The original approved projected budget for the project is $34,864,724, suggesting a projected savings of $3,891,724.

These figures are projections and the actual costs and savings may be different by the time the school is ready to be used in the fall of 2010.

Reminder Publications regrets the error and any confusion that may have been the result of it.
