WILBRAHAM Mark Thomas is $2,100 closer to his goal of raising enough money to travel to Amsterdam for an international volleyball competition.

The spaghetti supper hosted Nov. 3 by his parents, Tammy and Mark Sr., brought in enough donations to get the Minnechaug graduate almost halfway to his goal of $5,000.

"It went pretty good," the elder Thomas said. "It wasn't a huge success, but it was good."

In addition to the spaghetti supper, a large raffle was held to raise funds. The elder Thomas' nephew is an offensive lineman for the Denver Broncos and he donated a football signed by the entire team for the raffle. Thomas also acknowledged Pam's Bookstore and all the area businesses that donated gift certificates to the fundraiser.

The college sophomore will be traveling to Europe in June 2008, and his father said he's considering hosting another fundraiser sometime in January.

Mark Thomas is one of only 10 American players who will be competing in the tournament in the Netherlands.

Donations are still being accepted. If interested, make checks payable to Mark Thomas Team USA Fund and mail them to Mark Thomas, 11 Blacksmith Rd., Wilbraham, MA 01095 or to Bank of America, 124 Cabot St., Chicopee, MA 01013.
