Agawam seeks new treasurer/collector

Date: 6/15/2021

AGAWAM – The town of Agawam is currently searching for a permanent, full-time treasurer/collector.

The position opened after Laurel Placzek, current treasurer/collector, announced her retirement after 28 years.

Agawam Mayor William Sapelli said there has already been four applicants. He added that once the town sees the pool of applicants and is happy, they will review resumes and set up interviews.

“If we’re not satisfied, we will post again. Once the post is closed, we will start the interview process,” said Sapelli.

The interviews will allow the town to narrow down the applicants and find the person best fit for the job.

Although the timeline isn’t set in stone, Sapelli would like to have someone on board by Aug. 1.

“We want to have the right person,” he claimed, “This is a very important position for a community our size.”

In the meantime, an assistant who is already on the staff will take over Placzek’s duties until the position is filled.

The advertized job posting lists the salary range between $117,404.74 and $142,049.73.
