'Applause' series to begin

AGAWAM The Agawam Cultural Council has announced their second season of the "Applause" series of cultural events.

These events are free and open to the public. Events are held at the Agawam Public Library, 750 Cooper Street, at 7:30 p.m., except as noted.

Actors John Pogson and Lisa Steier, portraying Mark Twain and his wife Olivia, will kick off the season on September 16.

On October 20, Jacqueline Sheehan, author of Truth the life of Sojourner Truth, will discuss the writing of this historically accurate novel, as well as her writing career and the recent acceptance by Harper Collins of her second book.

The Arcos/Iris String Quartet, including Boris Kogan a member of the Springfield Symphony, will perform an evening of multicultural pieces inspired by nature on Nov. 18.

A Tai Chi demonstration by Baiqing Li, owner of the School of Tai Chi, and including audience participation, will take place on Feb. 9.

On March 8, Mark Tansey, owner of Partners Restaurant, will show you everything you always wanted to know about preparing great hors d'oeuvres. Event held at Partners Restaurant, 485 Springfield Street, Feeding Hills, starting at 7:30 p.m. Reservations are required; call 786-3754.

Judy Handler & Mark Levesque, acoustic guitars and mandolin ensemble including Genevieve Rose on bass and Gregory Caputo on drums, will perform on April 7, 2006.

The last event of the season, for children of all ages, will be a production of "Cinderella" held at the Red Door Theatre, 152 South Westfield Street, Feeding Hills, on May 6th at 11:00 a.m. Reservations are required; call 789-2026.
