AGAWAM — At its Nov. 26 meeting, the Zoning Board of Appeals unanimously approved to grant Six Flags of New England a special permit for Bonzai Pipelines, which is slated to debut in the summer of 2013.

The attraction will be the newest addition to Hurricane Harbor. The permit was required to build the ride because it consists of a 78-foot waterslide complex. From this hub, thrill-seekers will be dropped into one of six 257-foot enclosed slides from a launching capsule Six Flags calls the "DrenalineDrop."

In official documents regarding the decision, the board cited the overall safety and lack of disruption to the neighborhood surrounding the amusement park as reasons to approve the permit.

The papers also addressed the possibility of noise pollution. "No evidence was presented that the proposed amusement ride will be a nuisance, especially since any noise emitted by the users of this ride will be mostly contained by the enclosed tubes."
