Business expands line with acquisition

AGAWAM — On Jan. 2, locally based OMG Inc. announced its acquisition of the W.P. Hickman Company; a transaction that will expand its catalogue of roofing supplies to include edge metal roofing products.

OMG, established in 1981, acquired Hickman, which will now operate under the name Hickman Engineered Systems. The company was purchased for an undisclosed sum. The addition will expand OMG's clientele to include businesses such as Hilton Hotels & Resorts, The Coca-Cola Company and Red Robin.

Sam Everett, director of Marketing, described Hickman as "a premier brand in the edge metal market." He explained, "The edge system is the first line of defense [for a roof] against wind. They [Hickman] is the best at what they do."

He added that last year's Hurricane Sandy resulted in an increased demand for products in some markets, as per the usual when storms reach land.

Everett said, "OMG is the leading North American suppliers in roofing fasteners, adhesives and drains. The addition of Hickman, expands our offerings to our customers we have products for every type of commercial roofing application."

Each day OMG offers hands-on customer service by sending employees into the field to assist roofing contractors increase their productivity, by showing them more efficient ways of installation and to educate them about the product line OMG offers, according to Everett.

The addition will not impact local jobs.

In regards to future acquisitions, Everett stated that OMG is "always looking for ways to grow strategically."
