City Council meeting results in new projects

AGAWAM Mayor Richard Cohen announced last week that the City Council has approved funding for a series of projects to occur in Agawam.

The Council approved authorization for bonds in the amount of $645,000 for two new fire trucks for the local fire department.

"We need this," Cohen said to Reminder Publications. "Our other two are old and not in good working condition."

The Council approved $88,000 to be transferred in the direction of correcting issues with Robinson Park School and traffic issues.

Approval for funding for the Borgatti Memorial Playscape was another item on the agenda that was approved by an 11-0 vote.

Cohen also received a response from Senators Edward M. Kennedy and John F. Kerry in request for funding for the Agawam Senior Center expansion project.

The senators responded by stating deadlines had passed for the upcoming fiscal year in regards to funding for the project but they would "very much" like to work with the mayor in assisting Agawam's efforts to build a new senior center.
