Comedy night to benefit dog park development

Date: 1/16/2015

AGAWAM – The Agawam Dog Park planning will be a getting a boost in fundraising and in laughter on Feb. 7. The Agawam Dog Owners Group (ADOG) will be hosting its second Comedy Night at Oak Ridge Golf Club to raise money for the future dog park at Shea Field.

Scamps Comedy Production is running the show with its host Dave Rattigan. Rattigan hosts a show on XM Satellite Radio and will be joined by three other comics. Brad Mastrangelo is a contributing writer to “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,” Abhishek Shah appeared on “Last Comic Standing” and Chris Pennie also appeared on “Last Comic Standing,” as well as a finalist on “Next Big Comic.”

ADOG President Debbi Sanchez said that the performers would bring the laughs for something that the community needs.

“The comics are going to be hilarious. It’s going to be a fun night and it supports a great cause at the same time,” Sanchez said.

Sanchez said the success of last year’s event is a good sign for what this year will bring.

“Last year was our first ever comedy show, $4,000 in one night. It was overwhelmingly successful, beyond what we thought we could do,” Sanchez said.

The park has been in the design phase, and the plans are still being finalized, Sanchez said.

The money that is raised will go towards the development and maintenance of the dog park, Sanchez said. It could be used for things picnic tables, benches or exercise equipment for the dogs – whatever the park needs after construction.

The doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the show begins at 8 p.m. There will be raffles and a cash bar, and guests are allowed to bring in their own snacks for the show.

Tickets are $20 in advanced and $25 at the door. They can be purchased at Southgate Liquors or online at www.AgawamDogPark.com. To reserve seats for six or more, contact Sanchez at 374-4684.
