Kids splash into Mr. Six's newest island adventureJune 23, 2010.By Katelyn Gendron Reminder Assistant Editor AGAWAM -- Parents struggled to keep their little ones at bay last Thursday as they waited impatiently for the newest attraction to open at Six Flags New England. There was no stopping them from belly flopping into Mr. Six's Splash Island once given the signal to try out the park's latest attraction. Splash Island is the latest addition to Hurricane Harbor, a destination created specifically for young children in the predominately adult oriented water park. This is the fourth area dedicated to children and families, Melissa Pinkerton, director of communications at Six Flags told the crowd. "This is something we thought was desperately needed to fill out the experience. Kids and families are absolutely loving it!" Larry Litton, president of Six Flags New England, said. Hurricane Harbor is New England's largest water park, he added, noting the completion of Mr. Six's Splash Island added a 30,000 gallon mini wave pool and a 150-foot long lazy river among other amenities. Sara Iborra, a mother of two toddlers from Auburn, said her children were very impressed with the new attraction, which provided them with a safe, fun day out in the sun. The more than 75 children in attendance also enjoyed dancing with the park's mascot, Mr. Six, to a live band, flame throwers and jugglers, which created an atmosphere much like the Caribbean rather than Western Massachusetts -- an experience park officials hope will entice visitors to return again and again. Six Flags New England and Hurricane Harbor are open daily for the 2010 season at 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m., respectively. |
