AGAWAM -- Six Flags New England will bring patrons a new high-speed thrill next season with the opening of its 10th roller coaster.

The amusement park announced their plans for the new attraction inspired by DC Comics on Sept. 1. Melissa Pinkerton, director of communications for Six Flags New England, noted the ride wouldn't be an indoor coaster as was previously attempted with The Dark Knight in 2008.

The five-story-high outdoor coaster will feature 17 hairpin turns on 1,213 feet of track, built on the gridiron located in the DC Super Hero Adventures section. Pinkerton said the ride is targeted at families and tweens.

"Six Flags New England is proud to announce the addition of its 10th roller coaster for the 2011 season," Jason Freeman, interim park president, said. "We are continuing to expand our entertainment offerings to satisfy families as well as tweens and teens and this newest addition is the perfect compliment to our existing slate of attractions."

Pinkerton said park officials would submit plans and building permit applications to the town soon. When asked if they'd begin building the ride prior to receiving town permits, as was the case with The Dark Knight, Pinkerton replied, "We'll wait it out."

Further details regarding the theme and cost of the ride couldn't be issued at this time, she added, because schematics have yet to be finalized by Warner Bros.

The coaster is projected to be open to riders in April, 2011.
