AGAWAM — Young readers have one more reason to make a weekly trip to the library this July.

They could win tickets to the Majestic Theater’s Children’s Theater performances.

Thanks to the generosity of the Majestic Theater, which this summer donated a number of two-packs of tickets to its three children’s summer plays, and the support of the Agawam Cultural Council (ACC), which turned each two-pack into a family four-pack of tickets, the library once again has a great prize to reward its weekly scavenger hunt winners.

“The hunts [this year] are all related to our summer reading theme, ‘One World, Many Stories’,” Children’s Librarian Cynthia Sutter said. “By visiting the library each week [children] can participate.“

Sutter said the library plans to host six, possibly seven different hunts this summer, and children are encouraged to stop by and take part in each weekly drawing. She added that having the theater tickets as a weekly prize really help encourage young readers to make repeat visits to the library, promoting summer reading.

“The families that won last year really enjoyed attending the shows,” she said.

Andrea LaPlace, who coordinated the ticket purchase for the ACC, said the theater ticket prizes were very successful last year, and she was grateful to the Majestic for coming through with their generous donation this summer. The ACC , she said, purchased the tickets on their own last year to help the library promote summer reading.

“[The weekly winner] can use the four-pack any time during the six-week [performance] period,” LaPlace said. “If we can help promote reading in any way that we can, it’s just fine with us.”
