‘Scramble for the Animals’ returns to Oak Ridge Golf Club Date: 7/17/2015 FEEDING HILLS – Two area animal rescue organizations are joining forces for a charity golf scramble event.
The Westfield Homeless Cat Project and the Open Arms Rescue are hosting the eighth annual Scramble for the Animals Event at the Oak Ridge Golf Club on Aug. 2.
Marie Boccasile, a volunteer who has helped coordinate the event, said Scramble for the Animals is a day for the community to come together and have fun for a good cause.
“Last year was our best year. We have a lot of the same golfers golf with us every year,” she said. “It’s really a great event.”
The proceeds raised from the tournament are split between the organizations, and the goal for this year is $6,000, according to Boccasile.
Both organizations, she said, need community support to sustain their efforts.
“Right now, it’s kitten season. The Westfield Homeless Cat Project gets a lot of kittens this time of year. I know some of the money will go towards that,” Boccasile said. “The Westfield Homeless Cat Project takes in any cat that crosses their path. They’re very much for the cats. The Open Arms Rescue rescues doegs that can’t get adopted. They go out of their way to find homes for pit bulls. They deserve a chance.”
The “fun fundraiser,” according to Boccasile, only happens because of the passion from both organizations.
“If we weren’t working for the cats and dogs, we wouldn’t be doing this,” she said.
The scramble style tournament allows for teams of four to sign up. The cost of $100 includes golf, cart, lunch and dinner. Dinner only is $25. Prizes will be awarded for a hole-in-one, closest to the pin and longest drive.
Sign-ups begin at 11:30 a.m., with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. To sign up ahead of time, contact Boccasile at 564-0589 or marieboccasile@gmail.com.
