AGAWAM - On April 12, the Six Flags gymnasium was jam packed as park representatives, local politicians, invited public and members of the media tried to find a dry spot to attend the ribbon cutting of the new children's theme area at the amusement park, "Wiggles World."

"Six Flags has already won the rollercoaster wars, so we are now going to attack with diversified entertainment and food as well and we think this will make us number one in the industry," Larry Litton, the park president, said.

Although many echoed disappointment with the weather Litton expressed appreciation for the crowd turnout.

"This year we will expand the park ten-fold with family entertainment around every corner," he said.

Litton said he is proud of Six Flags' new partnership with the children's brand, the Wiggles. The Wiggles are owned by HIT Entertainment PLC, which was established in 1989, and was originally the international distribution arm of Jim Henson Productions.

Litton said the Wiggles area of the park includes seven new rides including the "Big Red Plane", the "Big Red Car," "Rosy Teacups with Dorothy the Dinosaur," "the SS Feathersword Play Station" and more.

"I'm most excited about the 'Get Ready to Wiggle' stage production," Litton said.

He announced that Six Flags would also soon be the home of the Thomas the Train area on June 15.

He said the park will be featuring more characters than ever before, will include non-stop street entertainment, acrobats of China, and a production of the Legion of Doom Show (part of the Justice League, a DC superhero team).

Litton said additional plans for the park include five new restaurant food eateries such as Ben and Jerry's and Cold Stone Creamery; Ted's Coney Island; Captain Brady Seafood and Yummy Yummy Cafe.

"Are you all ready to Wiggle?" Mayor Richard A. Cohen asked the audience during his speech.

Cohen said the city was fortunate to have the likes of Six Flags because of their ability to cater to the needs of everyone from, "very young children to very old children."

Other officials who attended the premier of the Wiggles World included State Representative Rosemary Sandlin, Agawam Police Chief Robert Campbell, City Clerk Richard Theroux, Superintendent of schools Dr. Mary A. Czajkowski, City Council President Donald M. Rheault, Vice President of the City Council Robert A. Magovern and City Councilor Bob Rossi.

"It is important to have public safety for the fun you want to have," Cohen said.
