AGAWAM – Six Flags New England (SFNE) will kick off its 2014 season with a fundraiser to benefit the Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society.

April 12 is opening day at the park. Guests who donate at least three items to the drive will receive a discount of $20.14 off the admission price to SFNE for up to four people. In addition, a portion of each ticket sold that day will be donated to the Humane Society.

Representatives from Dakin will be on hand with literature and some furry friends for guests to visit with. The park will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on both April 12 and 13.

The shelter is in need of items such as dry dog and cat food, scoop-able cat litter, Kong toys, cat toys, bird perches of various sizes, dish soap, bleach and office supplies including postage stamps and copy paper.

This year, the SFNE will debut its newest ride, The New England SkyScreamer in May.

The attraction towers over the Cyclone roller coaster at more than 400 feet in the air. The extreme swing ride seats 24 riders at once, lifting them up to 40 stories in the air while traveling at more than 35 miles per hour. The ride comes complete with a red, white and blue theme and a nighttime light show.

The Goliath roller coaster will showcase a new train that promotes faster entrances and exits for guests.

Other additions include the incorporation of healthy choice options such as gluten free and vegetarian entrees including chicken wraps, salads, black bean burgers and Gardein meatless products. The season dining pass now includes Johnny Rockets and J.B.'s Barbecue and can be used at any Six Flags park in the country.
