AGAWAM - Mark "Skip" Tenggren, the primary owner of Extra Innings located at 45 Tennis Rd, is pleased with his new franchise, that is one of two dozen Extra Innings locations in the country. The sports store and recreational facility had its grand opening on March 17.

"I was very impressed when I went to the original [Extra Innings]," he said. "They were flat out busy and the people that did the instruction were very helpful. The people got their money's worth and there is nothing here in this part of the state."

Extra Innings will be offering softball and baseball clinics available by appointment. There will be instruction in fast pitch and slow pitch. They currently employ part-time and full-time instructors who have baseball experience.

Tenggren, an East Longmeadow native, confesses himself to be a "baseball fanatic" but has not played seriously since the '80's.

"It is kind of funny because the original owner [of the franchise] Rob Nash is my brother-in-law's best friend and has a facility in Middleton, [MA]" Tenggren said, in explaining his introduction into the company.

The facility is open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

Tenggren makes it clear that the facility does not house batting cages but rather pitching and hitting tunnels.

"It is not a batting cage because it is multipurpose," he said. "They can be used for pitching, hitting, field and they are not coin operated."

The facility also contains two "Iron Mikes" which are self- loading hitting and pitching mechanisms and an extensive Pro Shop.

A half hour of tunnel rentals costs $20 and a full hour is $35. For team rental -circuit training area the cost is $45 for a full hour. For a team rental of three tunnels and a circuit training area the cost for a full hour is $125.

Memberships are also available.

The facility is available for birthday parties, which include two packages. The packages include batting, pizza and soda.

There will be a series of baseball clinics coming up in March and April. The clinics include everything from pitching to hitting and coaching. Clinics are starting as early as March 20 and as late as April vacation. For more information call 789-9200 or visit www.extrainings-agawam.com.
