AMHERST — “SpringFest” will arrive at the Mill District on Saturday, May 13. The first-time family event will be headlined with a concert by Mister G, a Latin Grammy and Parent’s Choice Award Gold winner.
The festival-themed day will also feature games and crafts for children, tree seedling giveaways and an overall interactive experience. Many of the child-friendly activities have been arranged by the Mill District Local Art Gallery
Mister G, who writes and performs in English, Spanish and Hebrew, is known offstage as Ben Gundersheimer and is a locally based songwriter performer known for his inclusive performances and songs for children and families. Among the songs he plays for crowds, “Pizza for Breakfast” and he is also an author, having written “Senorita Mariposa” and his most recent book, “How Many Squirrels Are in the World?”
Also scheduled, a singing stroll, led by Mister G, along the Mill River Story Walk. After the show, book signings and photo-ops are planned.
Cowl’s Senior Communications Director Tim O’Brien says SpringFest is an example of the ways they are trying to get word out about the Mill District to gain larger audiences.
“One of the audiences we want is families with kids because we’ve got some cool stuff here for families with kids,” he said.
“The Mill District is sort of a neighborhood within North Amherst that features a new and old shopping district,” O’Brien said, referring to W.D. Cowls owned North Square and Riverside Shops
Noting that they have not had a previous spring event for families in the Mill District, O’Brien said now is the time.
“You know what attracts a crowd? A crowd,” O’Brien said.
SpringFest runs Saturday, May 13 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is free of charge with pre-registration necessary at Eventbrite.
