AMHERST — Carefree Cakery has opened the doors to its storefront location in the Mill District. The bakery, located at 71 Cowls Road cleared the path for its confection seeking customers on Aug.1 and followed with a ribbon cutting Aug. 12.
Transitioning from a rental kitchen over late spring and early summer as construction progressed, owner Alysia Bryant kept her followers informed via social media videos as they placed their orders and awaited the walk-in experience.
The fair-trade operation features classic offerings such as red velvet and carrot cakes while delving into custom creations and buttercream options for cakes and cupcakes. The bakery also offers vegan and gluten-free varieties of their line of confections with separate baking areas for the distinct needs.
“Purity is a large part of who we are,” it reads on their homepage. “We believe food should be simple and real. For us, that means going the extra mile and making our goods completely from scratch.”
Custom orders are created and filled for events like weddings, dissertation defenses and dog birthdays.
Bryant’s entry into entrepreneurship is well documented on the bakery’s website while the journey itself is played out on their Facebook page. What began as a spending money venture in high school expanded into a pursuit exploring the creative side of the process with stops in temporary kitchens and pop up locations along the way.
The Carefree Cakery is open Tuesday through Sunday. More information is available at carefreecakery.com
